Purpose: To ensure that the facility is prepared to respond effectively and efficiently in case of emergencies, ensuring the safety of all individuals present on its premises, including volunteers and visitors. This policy outlines the commitment of the facility to develop and maintain emergency procedures, train staff members, and communicate these plans to volunteers and visitors.

Policy Statement:

  1. The facility will establish an Emergency Response Team (ERT) consisting of trained personnel who are responsible for coordinating and implementing emergency response measures during a crisis situation.
  2. An emergency evacuation plan will be developed and regularly reviewed, taking into account the specific needs of individuals with disabilities or other accessibility requirements. This may include designated escape routes, personal assistance during emergencies, and communication protocols for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  3. The facility will conduct regular emergency drills to test the effectiveness of its evacuation plan and ensure that staff members, volunteers, and visitors are familiar with the procedures.
  4. In case of an actual emergency, the ERT will activate the appropriate response protocols based on the nature of the incident (e.g., fire, medical emergency, severe weather).
  5. The facility will provide clear instructions to all individuals present during an emergency situation, including but not limited to: a. Evacuating the premises in a safe and orderly manner b. Seeking shelter or taking other protective actions as necessary c. Reporting any injuries or hazards to staff members or emergency responders
  6. The facility will maintain essential emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs), in good working order and ensure that personnel are trained in their proper use.
  7. In case of an evacuation, the facility will designate a safe assembly area where staff members can take roll call to account for all individuals present on its premises.
  8. The facility will communicate this emergency preparedness policy to volunteers and visitors through various means (e.g., posted notices, orientation sessions) to ensure that they are aware of their roles and responsibilities during an emergency situation.
  9. This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect any changes in the facility's operations or best practices related to emergency preparedness.

By adhering to this Emergency Preparedness Policy, we aim to create a safe environment for all individuals present at our facility during both routine and crisis situations. We encourage open communication and feedback regarding our policies and procedures to ensure that they remain effective in promoting the safety of everyone involved.
